Wet weather performance and Hollowform forks

Pace forks are designed to operate in typically muddy and wet UK conditions and the wiper seals fitted  to all models from 1993 through to the 2003 Hollowform models have used the same, efficient design.

These scraper seals are designed to clean the stanchion tube and are not hydraulic seals, as Pace forks are lubricated by grease not by hydraulic oil.To keep the fork operating smoothly, lubricating grease must be injected into the fork after every ride and contaminated grease periodically removed from inside the fork (after 25 hours of use- please refer to Manual).

This regular lubrication procedure is absolutely essential and one worthwhile note here is the correct method to load grease into the Pace gun. Unscrew cylinder from gun and push down the cylinders sliding base. Load with grease forcing out any pockets of air in the process before screwing cylinder back onto nozzle. Finally use a screwdriver to push out remaining air pockets trapped within the cylinder, inserting screwdriver through cylinder bottom and pushing sliding base up hard. Pump gun to prime. Failure to load gun correctly will result in gun injecting air into the fork- not lube!

Coinciding with the recent change in weather we have serviced a number of forks at the factory where customers have complained about stickiness in the forks action- particularly in wet conditions. This symptom is usually created by grit loaded water gradually working past the seal and causing a partial seizure between bearing and stanchion tube.

Obviously it's essential to eradicate this problem as quickly as possible, getting you back out onto the trail and returning your fork to its customary smooth and efficient operation.

Often we have found that by servicing the fork and following the lube procedure the problem is immediately eradicated. However in some instances we have found the scraper seals so damaged that we have replaced these with new.

Should your fork exhibit this problem we would advise the lubrication procedure is followed, however should the problem persist then obviously a technical issue must have arisen, annoying but in all probability a minor problem quickly rectified. Please immediately contact Pace where a checkover at the factory can be organised.

Alternatively book your fork in for a service and for £39.95 your fork will be, checked, cleaned, greased and new seals fitted. Call Pace on 01751-432929.
