Ooooh! Twill weave sir...
Our latest superlightweight fork, the RC38 Race, is the next fork coming off our production line- just in time for the start of the race season. It's longer travel twin sister the RC38LT shares most of the technology and components of the Race excepting a number of subtle, high performance parts.
Take the Hollowform slider assembly for example- on the face of it this carbon fibre wonder is common to all Pace Forks, however the Race gets the 'hot' version. So that we can maintain stiffness and strength, but pare away the grams, it's carbon matrix is hand laid up with a much stronger higher modulus, uni-directional carbon/twill weave mix. So although the product looks the same close inspection shows a totally different pattern on the surface, whilst inside the bridge the hollow structure is much larger- producing a thinner wall and 50g weight saving.
Also interesting to note is that the Race actually produces 70mm of travel (nominally spec'd as a 65mm travel fork) as the forks' travel is set by the forks balance of negative/positive pressures. Factory recommended pressures for racing will produce 70mm travel, whilst setting up the fork with more negative pressure for softer initial travel (recreational riding) produces 65mm travel.
